Calculating
emissions into the air
Introduction
Emissions into the atmosphere are estimated by implementing
a particular calculating methodology. The identification of emitting
sources is based on nomenclatures relating to emitting activities
(SNAP - Selected Nomenclature for Air Pollution) and fuels (NAPFUE
- Nomenclature for Air Pollution of FUEls).
Reference
nomenclatures (SNAP and NAPFUE)
Sources of pollutants are defined by considering combinations
of several items relating respectively to activities, fuels and
rubrics dedicated to further possible subdivisions dealing with
various criteria such as type of process, abatement techniques,
operating conditions, etc. The second and the third items are in
some cases not relevant.
The two first items
mentioned above are defined at the European level. Definitions are
available in nomenclatures :
- SNAP (Selected
Nomenclature for Air Pollution) for emitting activities
- NAPFUE (Nomenclature
for Air Pollution of FUEls) for fuels

: the version of the SNAP nomenclature is the version 1.0
of the 20 March 1998 with adaptations from CITEPA, in december
2001, 2002 and 2005, to integrate new relevant sources about particulate
emissions - These additionnal SNAP codes are in italic form. |
