Comments

In 2006, selenium emissions in mainland France were estimated to 14.3 t. These emissions are relatively stable during the 1990-2006 period.

They are mainly due to three sectors :

  • manufacturing industry with 84% of total emissions in 2006,
  • residential/tertiary with 11%,
  • energy conversion with 5%.
In the manufacturing industry sector, most of the emissions are generated by the production of non-metallic mineral and construction materials sub-sector, which represented 87% of the manufacturing industry sector in 2006. Thereafter, in a lower level, the use of residual oil is also a significant source because of the traces of selenium it contains.
