For a good understanding of information
Emissions are presented according to the SECTEN format for mainland regions. These data are regularly revised without prior notice, to take into account the continuous improvements in knowledge, methods to estimate and international reporting rules .

The sectorial coverage of source categories and the format for data reporting is different of those used to comply with international commitments.

More information concerning these data
Air emissions are estimated on a regional/local (département) scale every 5 years (1990, 1995 and currently 2000).

The method used includes :

  • on one hand, data spatially located such as discharge from Large Point Sources or specific data on energy consumption, traffic, production, livestock, weather conditions, etc. which are available by this scale.
  • on the other hand, data distributed from national or regional levels by using relevant functions of allocation, data mentioned above and previously located being obviously excluded.

Data presented refer to the year 2000 and include all man-made and non man-made sources except for CO2 for which non man-made emissions and sinks are not included.

Substances inventoried by the scale of regions/departments for the year 2000 are the same than those taken into account at the national level. Data are presented for : SO2, NOx, NH3, COVNM, CO, CO2, CH4, N2O, HFCs, PFCs, SF6, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg , Ni, Pb, Se, Zn, dioxins and furans, hexachlorobenzene (HCB), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs).

The emissions data presented below, for the year 2000, have been estimated in accordance with the methodologies used for the national inventories for the year 2000 and, particularly for the 2003 edition of the inventories under the following formats : UNECE (December 2004), UNFCCC (mainland France December 2004), and SECTEN (February 2004). Consequently, the total national emissions presented in the different inventories are consistent for the year 2000 (except for SECTEN).

It should be noted that sometimes regional emissions differ from the total national, because of the annual updates of the national inventories, and the different sources covered.

For each substance, emissions are presented in the form of charts providing information by regions and for the main source categories : data tables are also available. Figures and data charts are not translated.

Translation of the legend :
Transformation d'énergie = Energy conversion
Industrie manufacturère = Manufacturing industry
Résidentiel / tertiaire = Residential / tertiary
Agriculture et sylviculture = Agriculture and forestry
Transport routier = Road transport
Autres transports = Other transport
Sources biotiques = Biotic sources
