Reduction techniques and costs last udated : 30/03/2004

Whatever the pollutant, parameters to take into account for choosing a control technique are :

  • The required level of emission reduction (initial emission, regulatory constraint, …)
  • Characteristic of exhaust gases (gaseous flow, pollutant flow, temperature, humidity, …)
  • Suitable location for installing the treatment device
  • Nature of by-products (liquid or solid)
  • Waste generation (with possibility for recovery or not)
  • Possible changes in efficiency through stricter regulations
  • Investment and operating costs.

Some examples of techniques used for emission control :
Sulphur oxides  Nitrogen oxides  Particles  VOCs
